Conscious Disposal Tips
We want to empower you to look at how you consume and be more conscious about your disposal. Don’t beat yourself up for not going zero waste, but do celebrate the conscious disposal of your un-wanted possessions! This is a huge step towards living in greater alignment with the earth. First and foremost, you want to make your purchases last. Buy what you adore, what your children will adore, and what can have an extended wearable life across seasons and uses. But also, don’t hold onto clothes just because you think that someday you may wear them again or you may fit into them again. Declutter your closet, your mind, and soul, by doing regular cleansing of your closets and drawers. When you do, keep the following in mind…
Make 3 piles: waste, donation, resell.
Waste Pile
First, check to see if your local municipality offers a textile recycling program. If they do not, there are organizations that will pay for a package of discards to be shipped to their facilities. Find one most regional to you. Exciting innovations are underway in the recycled textiles realm, and manufacturers actually need your trash! Participate in the change!
Donation Pile
You know your own community best. Some possible channels are your local “buy nothing” facebook group. If you don’t know if you have one, do some facebook searching. Otherwise, call around to your local charities to see if they have needs. Keep it local! This way your donations are assuredly being used, not sold off to foreign markets.
Resell Pile
For those items in great shape, you have many options. With anything you’ve purchased from Ave Lumi, we’ll have a look and see if we can buy them back. Other channels for resale are Buffalo Exchange, Poshmark & Threadup.
